Misplaced Stanza

   19990225.1216

With my words I form a connection with another world
One of several billion
Signals emitted at roughly a hundred per minute
But not much comes back
Except for what I say to myself
But sometimes that's good enough
Care needs to be taken, though
What one says becomes more true in the saying
And sometimes (but not necessarily) in the hearing
Which is why it's always easier to lie to oneself
(And even moreso if one actually listens to what one says)
Than to another
So, by saying anything, I simply tell my listener
What it is that I want to say
And nothing more
And the reaction that I see tells me
What my listener thinks of that
